Green Fifield, a local community action group set up to enhance and add to the existing natural assets of the village and the surrounding area, have recently signed up to EarthWatch’s FreshWater Watch programme of citizen scientists contributing to a picture of the health of our fresh water ways (https://earthwatch.org.uk/get-involved/freshwater-watch).

The monthly measurements involve testing water for colour, clarity and levels of Phosphates and Nitrates, as well as making observations about the height and speed of the water channel and the condition of the surrounding banks.

By taking part in this regular research, Green Fifield hopes to play a small role in safeguarding the vital resource that is our freshwater system in the UK.
